Merry Christmas

I was asked, ‘What’s your favourite Christmas song?’ by one of the Year 2 children in school today. Of course I answered with the correct choice – Fairy-tale of New York by the Pogues. I’m not entirely sure the child in question knew much about this song to be honest, so I asked them what their favourite festive tune was. ‘I wish it could be Christmas every day!’ he replied. I went on to ask him whether he did, in fact, wish every day was Christmas day. He beamed a smile at me and replied ‘Oh yes, I wish that it was!’

We all have our own favourite Christmas songs that we sing along to at this time of year. One that certainly springs to mind is Andy Williams’ ‘It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.’  And, I have to agree with him. Christmas is a wondrous time of the year that brings out the best in people and their spirit and what better place to spend it than in a school full of hundreds of children.

Forest Park is a magical place anyway, but this December we have added an extra ‘wow’ factor to our usual routine. The children and staff have been extremely busy preparing for their Nativity shows and Carol Service, which were a huge success. Broadway better watch out as there are certainly some rising stars in our school! Many thanks to the PTA for hosting an extremely successful Christmas fair too. There were a wide range of stalls and activities which helped raise a fantastic amount for the school PTA fund.

There was also a fun packed Christmas jumper day when the junior children were taken to the local ice rink to enjoy some ice skating. Most of the children were very talented ice skaters and put the staff, who spent a lot of time on their bottoms, to shame. The infant and EYFS children were also treated to a Christmas themed Rhyme Time last week. We have also enjoyed class Christmas parties and a wonderful Christmas lunch provided by Mrs Beale, our very talented cook. Oh and we hosted our very own dance show for parents as well!

The highlight of all of these events has been witnessing the children learn, perform, sing, dance or act with so much enjoyment on their faces. They have embraced everything with the true Forest Park spirit and deserve their well-earned holiday.

This term has been a busy one but extremely rewarding and I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Season’s Greetings
