The eighteenth century eminent American philosopher and scientist, Benjamin Franklin is accredited with the phrase, ‘by failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.’ It set me thinking about how much preparation work is done in and for our school community.

The excellent teaching and learning that happens daily in our classrooms is due to the detailed preparation of dedicated staff.  Behind the planning is a collaborative team of subject coordinators who in conjunction with Mrs Niland, the Director of Studies, ensures that the learning objectives and outcomes for all abilities are achievable and that the delivery of the curriculum is exciting and stimulating.

We are very proud of our Year 6 pupils who have prepared diligently and been rewarded with  success in 11+examinations and senior school entrance exams.  All of our Year 6 pupils will leave Forest Park Prep to attend senior schools that will continue to develop their abilities and talents.

The wonderful day trips, residentials, activities and visitors in school all require careful planning so that the children benefit from the experiences, learn new skills and widen their horizons. Our new Y5/6 Pirate themed residential to Wales has seen a great investment of time and effort by colleagues who have visited the youth hostel and timetabled activities.

Patience is also required when doing careful planning. Most mornings I have been greeted by some Reception children who inform me that the chicks incubating in their classroom still haven’t hatched. Three weeks is a long time when you are four or five!
