Winning Start

Posted on September 30 2015

Last Friday I was sat in another school listening to an experienced headteacher talk about ‘keys to success’. The focus was on school development and ways to move a school forward. It was a very enjoyable meeting to be part of, but as good as the presentation was, my highlight of that day was when I checked my phone at lunchtime. Forest Park were taking part in the ISA Water Polo Championships and a text update from Miss Booth informed me that they had made the final and come away with a silver medal. In addition, last night the Forest Park football team played their first two games of the Sale and Partington League, winning both and so becoming top of the league. A great winning start to the sporting year at Forest Park!

Sport is so important in education because it encourages children to be active, lead a healthy lifestyle, make friends and, of course, have fun. At Forest Park our high quality school sport has benefits that spread right across the curriculum and beyond - it develops confidence and a sense of achievement, it teaches young people how to rise to a challenge, and nurtures the character and skills that will help them get on and succeed in life.

At Forest Park we are fortunate to have forged strong links with community partners such as Manchester City FC, Sale Leisure Centre and Trafford Sports. The range of activities on offer to the children at the school is varied and each child has the chance to experience something new to them.

The vast majority of children at Forest Park will be given the opportunity to represent their school at sport and compete in various events throughout their educational career. By the time they reach Year 6 at Forest Park every child will have had the opportunity to pull on the green colours and represent the school.

There are many sporting events ahead this season. Let’s hope the winning water polo start is the shape of things to come at Forest Park!
