Forest Park Alumni

Continuing with our Alumni updates, this week we catch up with Jessica.

Where do you currently go to school?

I am currently studying in my last year at Wellington Sixth Form in Timperley.

What were your roles and responsibilities at Forest Park Prep?

During my final year, I was elected to become Senior Prefect and nominated to look after the Pre-Prep during lunch time.

Were you a member of any sports team?

I was in the girls’ netball team; I played as goal shooter if I remember correctly.

Did you take part in any music?

Unfortunately, I do not possess any musical talents although I do like to sing in the shower.

What house were you in?

Terrific Tatton (the number one!)

What skills have you transferred from Forest Park Prep to your secondary school?

Perseverance. Forest Park taught me to have the courage to follow my heart and intuition but most importantly, Forest Park taught me the skill of never giving in and believing in myself.

What was your overriding memory of Forest Park Prep?

Oh, it has been so very long. However, I think my strongest memory is the junior musical performance when I was chosen to be a punk adapted Wicked Witch of the West – great fun!

What was your transition like from primary to secondary school?

The transition between primary and secondary school was daunting yet, surprisingly, manageable. In all honestly, I found the prospect, or even the thought, was more terrifying than actually doing it.

Forest Park is a small, friendly school where everyone knows each other and Wellington seemed massive.  However, I soon found my feet and have some truly amazing friends.

What are your favourite subjects at school?

My favourite subjects are, undeniably, English and history.

Which sports have you carried on with?

I began as a sport enthusiast but, as the years have passed by, I have been focusing my attention on my academics.

Do you enjoy your school and what are your favourite parts?

I have enjoyed Wellington very much.  There have been a lot of exiting opportunities and a lot of challenges too. However, my favourite part of the day is lunchbreak, when I can chill with my friends in the sixth form common room.

What was it like returning to Forest Park Prep on your recent work placement?

It was different and slightly bizarre. Distance not only provided me with a sense of nostalgia but also, perspective. As I entered the school via the school entrance, the one I left by all those years ago, the walls seemed strange yet oddly familiar. It was then I truly appreciated what Forest Park stood for.

Is there any advice you can share that will help the Year 6 children, when moving to their new secondary school?

Ultimately, your time is limited so do not waste it living someone else's life. Do not allow the noise of other people's opinions to drown out your own and, overall, have faith in yourself.

Thank you Jessica, it was wonderful to hear all your news and please stay in touch.
