Forest Park Alumni

Posted on April 20 2016

We were delighted to welcome back to school our past Year 6 pupils, to take part in a lively and vibrant transition evening. We had teachers from some of the independent grammar schools available to talk to the children.

It was wonderful to see all our alumni in their new uniforms and we were impressed with the confident and empathetic way they shared their experiences of the transition into Year 7. It was a pleasure to see how they had grown into successful, mature, passionate students, the perfect role models for the children at Forest Park Prep.

We would like to thank them also for imparting their knowledge to both children and parents alike to improve the Year 6 experience in readiness for senior school. We are proud to have them join our alumni and we look forward to sharing their stories on the school newsletter of the upcoming weeks.

This week, we meet William and Jessica for a quick chat away from the crowds of the eager Year 5 and 6 children and their parents.  They shared some of their thoughts with us…

Jessica

What was your role of responsibility at Forest Park Prep?

Head Girl and House Captain for Tatton

Where do you currently go to school?

Withington Girls’ School, Year 7

Were you a member of any sports team? Did you take part in any musical activities?

I was a part of the school swimming team and the school choir performing at many events, which I really enjoyed.

What skills have you transferred from Forest Park Prep to your secondary school?

I developed my many different social skills, learning how to respect others and how to get along with people even when it can be difficult.

What was your overriding memory of Forest Park Prep?

Joining the School Council when I was in the reception class.

What was your transition like from primary to secondary school? What was it like making new friendships?

Nerve-racking at times but very exciting. I have lots of friends now but it was a gradual process, slower than at Forest Park Prep.

Do you enjoy your new school? What are your favourite subjects at school?

Yes, I love my new school, it takes a while to travel there but the peer support is one of my favourite parts. My favourite subjects are art and history and I have carried on playing netball and swimming regularly.

What was it like returning to Forest Park Prep? What was your favourite memory or experience whilst at Forest Park Prep?

Returning was overwhelming yet small! My favourite memory was becoming Head Girl.

What differences are there between attending Forest Park Prep and your current school?

The size and travel, Manchester Girls School is much bigger and it takes quite a while to get there in the morning from where I live it…but it’s worth it!

Is there any advice you can share that will help the Year 6 children, when moving on to their new secondary schools?

The children at Forest Park Prep must not worry about new making friends, relax and enjoy it!
