Tingatinga Tales!

Posted on June 30 2017

What a talented bunch of artists we have in Year 3 and Year 4! Our joint trip to The Lowry saw us take part in workshops based around Lowry’s landscapes and Edward Tingatinga’s animal paintings.

Year 3 made the most of the sunshine by escaping to the great (Salford Quays) outdoors, where the resident artist taught them how to carefully observe and sketch the local buildings and bridges. They were extremely excited to then take part in some 3d modelling, designing their own buildings using recycled materials, cardboard boxes and enough sticky-backed plastic to do Blue Peter proud! Meanwhile, Year 4 were busy block-printing on foam. They produced some wonderfully patterned animal prints, in the Tingatinga style, and this was followed by small groups creating some fabulous collages. Terrific teamwork!

Both classes also took part in a drama session, which involved visiting the Lowry gallery and creating their own freeze frames, based on the characters in Lowry’s paintings. There were some impressive American and Australian accents as our character backstories became ever more inventive!

A thoroughly enjoyable day all round!
