World Book Day

Posted on March 05 2015

All year groups have had a busy and rewarding week participating in an exciting programme of activities to celebrate World Book Week.

Comfort, creativity and confidence were the outcomes on Tuesday when we welcomed Carol Ferro, a skilled storyteller to school. As they sat in their pyjamas and onesies the children were enthralled by her stories and let their imagination soak up the characters and settings. Amazing puppets were made to help the children create their own stories and the writing workshops produced imaginative, thoughtful and engaging stories.

On Wednesday, we paired the classes and created zig- zag books based on an animal theme. The children really enjoy learning with different year groups. We are very proud of the vertical integration in school and the benefits it has for all the children.

The D.E.A.R (Drop Everything and Read) event on Thursday saw all children and staff engrossed in reading and sharing stories. No one was late to the ‘Madhatter’s Tea Party’ lunch which was cooked and served by our fantastic catering team.

Our reasons for reading display is growing daily with some fascinating reasons to read!

“I like reading because it makes you feel like you are in the book with the character.” Alyssa, Year 5

“I like reading because it helps me with tricky words.” Krishan, Year 1

“I like reading because some of the books are hilarious!” Georgia, Year 1
