Year 2 R.E. Trip

On Tuesday our Year 2 pupils visited the Jewish Museum in Manchester.

This trip formed part of the children’s study of Judaism. In lessons they have been looking at Jewish beliefs and customs.

Throughout the day the children were great ambassadors for the school. Their behaviour was exemplary and they showed a real enthusiasm for all of the activities organised by the museum.

The children listened intently to a lecture on Jewish beliefs and participated in an interesting discussion afterwards. It was good to see them asking, as well as answering, questions. We were told about the history of the Passover festival and of the Jews’ escape from their suffering in Egypt. The pupils were given a task of preparing a table for a Passover feast.

During a 'hands on session', the children were asked to sort and match certain objects that link to Jewish services, synagogues and festivals. They were able to label each item confidently. Every child had the opportunity to dress up in the traditional costume worn for the weekly service.

In our last session the children listened to the story of Moses.  They were fully engaged and continued to impress the staff with the quality of their answers.

Afterwards, the children were able to buy souvenirs from the museum shop, to remind them of their enjoyable and valuable experience.

Every pupil on the trip can be proud of their efforts. They were polite and courteous throughout. The knowledge and understanding shown by our children was first class.

The pupils will be able to use the experience gained from the trip to enhance their studies in class.

Well done Year 2 for all of your efforts and making this such a wonderful trip.
