Year 5 Trip to the Jewish Museum

Posted on February 03 2017

Last week, our Year 5 students visited the Jewish Museum in Manchester.  This formed part of their study of Judaism from their Religious Education lessons back in school.

After braving the worst that the Manchester weather in January can offer and a long tram journey, our students enthusiastically took to the activities in the museum.  They were given a talk on Jewish beliefs and prayer.  The guide explained why the Torah is so important to their religion.  The students were given the opportunity to dress up in ceremonial outfits and took part in a range of activities that gave them a real insight into the Jewish faith.  They were taken to the prayer area and told about customs relating to the Sabbath.  At the end of the educational session, the children were allowed to choose momentoes to take home to remind them of their visit.

The education team at the museum were hugely impressed by the conduct and enthusiasm shown by our students throughout the trip.  They took part in all of the activities and displayed a keen interest throughout.  The students all said how much they enjoyed the trip and some have written to the museum to thank them for the experience.  I am certain that they will have gained a lot from the visit and this will help their learning back in class.

Forest Park values the importance of experiences like this in order to give our students a better understanding of the diverse cultural and religious nature of our local area.
