Year 6 Trip to The Royal Cheshire Show

Posted on June 24 2016

Wellington boots and an early start on Wednesday saw the Year 6 children begin an enjoyable day at The Royal Cheshire Show.   Upon arrival, we headed straight to the ‘pigs’.  The children sussed out Miss Booth’s opposition quickly...a gleaming large Black.  We were all highly entertained by the pig showing, as many were quite unruly and their owners had to work incredibly hard to demonstrate the pigs in their best light to the watchful eye of the judge!

The children certainly must have built up an appetite watching the pigs, as the next stop was the unsuspecting food marquee.  Little did the exhibitors know that the hungry Year 6 children from Forest Park Prep were on their way to devour everything in sight!  Let’s just say the large variety of free food samples were very well received and explored at great length!  The children charmed a generous lady from Sale, who was selling a wonderful selection of food; she explained about her new shop on Oxford Road in Altrincham.  Hopefully, she will also make a visit to school too, as her food was truly delicious!

We were impressed with the children’s entrepreneurial skills and overheard them say, “Is that your best price?’’ , “If we bought three, what can you do on the price?”, “Do you have any free samples?” and, “Do you have any promotional items?”  We met with Roberts Bakery and received their published ‘The Little book of Nutrition’ for the school.  Roberts Bakery will be visiting the school in the near future to carry out a bread making course with the children.

Picnic time for the children was merged with the opportunity to enjoy the fair rides and stalls.  The children relished the challenge to have fun, learn about caring for pigs and why rare breeds are so important.  The three very cheeky young piggies in the arena loved all the attention the Year 6 children bestowed upon them.
