Last week, a puzzled Early Years pupil asked me, “What’s a learning journey?” Try as I might to explain that learning is like a journey taking place at different times and in different places, I was met with a blank look. “But I can’t be on a journey, I haven’t been anywhere, I am at school!” To contextualize, this conversation was taking place in the ‘Three Bears’ House’ whilst making porridge!

In my opinion the most memorable learning comes from a combination of excellent teaching and practical experience. The Year 5 children were equally as excited about their journey on the tram to the Football Museum as they were about the workshops.

Last Friday one of our local MP’s made a journey from Westminster to Forest Park Prep to share the experiences of his job. The Year 6 topic on government and politics continues with bills being debated and proposed. They will be presented before the end of term to the School Council and the senior leadership team for ratification.

Our recent school Speech Competition, with its high calibre of presenters and an eclectic mix of topics, marks the pathways of our entrants. It is with great pride that we celebrate their efforts and note positive changes in their confidence and aspirations.

Finally, three of our children made the journey to the Olympic Stadium in London this weekend to participate in the ISA National Swimming competition. Success was enjoyed by all and I look forward to celebrating their triumphs with the rest of the school community on Friday in our Celebratory Assembly.
