Top of the League!

Posted on January 20 2020

Whisper it quietly, especially in this part of Manchester, but it appears that Liverpool FC will win their first Premier League title in thirty years this season; the simple fact being that Liverpool are streets ahead of the chasing pack and it is highly unlikely anyone will catch them. This isn’t going to be too popular, as Manchester City were the pre-season favourites to retain yet another championship but seem to have just fallen short this time around.

I won’t be one who relishes Liverpool’s victory this season as I'm not much of a fan (long story, but FA Cup final last-minute equalisers in 2006 don't go away too easily) but I cannot disagree with the many accolades praising Liverpool and their team this season. Liverpool FC has a tremendous team spirit and energy and every single part of the club work together with a clear vision toward success. The whole community believe in achieving the very best in everything they do and by working as one they will achieve their desired goal.

Forest Park echoes many of these characteristics; we strive to be winners and have a clear vision to succeed just as Liverpool FC have demonstrated so well this year. Pupils of all ages develop highly positive attitudes to learning and enthusiastically embrace opportunities to acquire new skills and knowledge. Children competently direct their own learning, are fully prepared to make mistakes and able to recover swiftly in order to meet their self-assigned targets. They are highly successful in gaining entry to their senior school of choice, with a very large majority securing places at state grammar schools and local independent schools (90% this year). Pupils learn at a rapid rate due to the lively, often inspirational teaching, which motivates pupils of all ages and abilities to work hard and aim high. Skills of self-reflection are embedded in the teaching and learning throughout the school. Pupils become capable of assessing and improving their own work.

Furthermore, our children also develop high levels of confidence and perseverance, unequivocally espousing the school motto, ‘I Can and I Will’. All of them reliably show a generosity of spirit when working collaboratively, keen to support and encourage each other to solve problems and achieve common goals. By the time they leave school, pupils have acquired excellent learning habits and are very well prepared for the next stage of their education. Leadership at the school actively places a focus on seeing each child as an individual and seeks to bring out the best in them, in accordance with the school aim. Leaders and managers emphasise that personal development is just as important as academic achievement, and together they closely monitor both aspects of pupils’ outcomes to ensure the schools’ aims are being fulfilled. The children express a deep appreciation for the love and support of family members, friends and teachers; they describe joy and friendship as a ‘life treasure’.

As I’m sure you will recognise, these are not opinions from myself or anyone else within Forest Park but the opinions and judgements of our ISI inspectors who graded the school as 'EXCELLENT' in every area during their three-day visit last term. The highest judgements in all categories reflect the strong partnership that exists between our children and our school. We are honoured to know that working with our parents and our children in the way we do means we join that small group of schools who are judged to be Excellent.

Our school team has been recognised as providing high-quality education and provision in all aspects of our school. We are particularly proud because it was clear to the inspectors that they were observing our school’s normal day-to-day practice. Staff delivered their usual lessons in the Forest Park way – and this was judged to be of the highest quality!

This fantastic piece of news is not an excuse for complacency; staff remain focused on ensuring that current and future generations of pupils are served with distinction and we do not underestimate the importance of this responsibility. Forest Park has come a long way and improved in many areas and we are determined to go even further. We are an excellent school with a forward-thinking community and will strive to succeed at every level and at every opportunity.

The inspection team has confirmed that our children receive a first-class education at Forest Park and, just like Liverpool FC, as we currently sit top of the league in Trafford we are busy planning for much more success yet to come!
