Arctic Explorers

Year 2 would like to apologise for the snowy weather.  As we have been studying the Arctic, we felt it would be beneficial to find out what it would be like to live in Arctic-like conditions!  Now that's going the extra mile!

The children in Year 2 have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Arctic. They have used Maps and Globes to find the Arctic Circle and list the countries that make up the Arctic. They have looked at Arctic cities and finding human features.  Did you know they have tower blocks, roads and even cars in the Arctic?!

We have investigated Arctic animals and discussed how they are able to live in such cold and harsh conditions. As part of their English lesson, the children created a whole class information book about polar bears. They worked in groups; each group took on a different chapter in the book and presented their in work in an informative and interesting way. They then produced some beautiful art work of a Polar Bear and the Northern Lights, which is proudly displayed in the classroom.

We are finishing off our topic by studying the Inuit people past and present and Arctic Explorers. The children built igloos over the holidays and if this weather continues we may be able to build one in the playground!

We have been so impressed by the childrens’ knowledge and enthusiasm; they have embraced every aspect of the topic and produced work to a very high standard.
