Year 2 Take Ownership of Their Learning

Well, what a busy start to the 2nd half term in Year 2. The children have returned after the half-term holiday ready to take on new challenges and ownership of their learning. In Science, we have been looking at Everyday Materials. As part of our topic, the children were set a challenge to build a bridge using only 8 pieces of paper and sellotape. The bridge needed to hold the weight of a toy car. The children took on the challenge as all Forest Park children do, with a true ‘I can and I will’ attitude.

Each group presented their bridge to the class, evaluating what they found difficult and how they overcame the challenges the task produced.  Within our RE topic, Year 2 have been thinking about God and Nature. In a recent lesson about Harvest, the children made bread and were able to take home a bread roll to enjoy. This week we have had a visitor in the classroom. An all-new superhero ‘Traction Man’. The children loved reading all about him and over the next couple of weeks we are going to follow him as he goes on lots of exciting adventures!
