Early Years’ Buddies

Posted on November 04 2016

At Forest Park, we utilise the buddy system in our Early Years classes, Pre-Prep with Year 5 and Reception with Year 6.  The children benefit immensely from being or having a role model. They engage in positive shared experiences during the course of the year. Through this, children learn the values: caring for others, friendliness, respect, valuing difference, including others and responsibility.

Although the children may not be aware of the philosophy behind the system, they feel the benefits and the smiles we see when they are engaged in an activity together are priceless.

This week, the Year 5 children met their Pre-Prep buddies to introduce themselves.   Pre-Prep were so excited to have their buddies visiting and Year 5 did not disappoint as they delivered some lovely cards which they had made for the younger children.

Year 5 showed great compassion and a caring attitude with their younger counterparts and took their responsibility seriously, showing them how to use the learning areas safely.  Most importantly they all had fun!

Year 6 also visited their buddies, this time in Reception.  The Reception children were extremely proud to show their buddy their new and exciting classroom.  All the children interacted well in the different learning areas.   The children chose to finish the meet and greet session with a whole class story.

Early Years are looking forward to their next buddy adventure!
