The joint Year 1 and Year 2 'habitats' trip to Southport got off to a flying start with a pacy trek through the Formby pine woods. Our wonderful guide, Darren, taught us all about the local wildlife and some of us were lucky enough to spot an endangered red squirrel!
Next, we travelled to the vast, open space of the dune heath, where we learned about skylarks, who make their nests on the ground. Our final guided stop was at the deserted beach, where we learned about natterjacks and tiger beetles.
The adventure didn't stop there, however! When we returned to the coach we discovered it had broken down! While we waited for a replacement coach to arrive, we had some refreshments and went for a walk in a woodland clearing to build some habitats for the wildlife.
