Last term we held our annual Secondary School evening, where we invite our current Year 5 and 6 children to meet representatives from high schools from the local area. As part of the evening we also invite our FPPS alumni to come and talk to the children about their experiences of transitioning from primary school into high school. We caught up with the Year 7's to talk about their experiences.
This week, we meet Micah.
Your Name: Micah
Where do you currently go to school? Altrincham Grammar School for Boys. I am in Year 7.
What were your roles of responsibility at Forest Park Prep? I was Deputy Head Boy (the best role in the world!)
Which sports teams were you a member of? What were your favourite sporting memories at Forest Park? I was in the Cross Country team
Did you take part in any music? What were your favourite musical memories at Forest Park? 7 Years (our Leavers’ Assembly), it was fun
What house were you in? Tatton
What skills have you transferred from Forest Park Prep to your secondary school? “My Great Books”, writing skills and quick problem solving
What was your overriding memory of Forest Park Prep? Running around the playground with Shreyas, pretending I was Ben 10!
What was your transition like from primary to secondary school? I found it difficult to start with, but it got easier quickly
Have you made lots of friends? Yes, and I have kept a lot of my old FPPS friends too
What are your favourite subjects at school? History, English and Maths
Which sports have you carried on with? Football, hockey and running
Do you enjoy your new school? What are your favourite parts? It’s really fun and I enjoy everything
What is it like returning to Forest Park Prep? Weird, but it feels like coming home.
What differences are there between attending Forest Park Prep and your current school? It is much bigger and there is a lot more work to keep up with!
Would you like to share any thoughts about how we could improve our transition evening? It is perfect the way it is
Is there any advice you can share that will help the Year 6 children, when moving on to their new secondary schools? Just enjoy it!
