Wednesday last week saw the Infant, Junior and Chamber Choirs, and the Rock Bands participate in the Altrincham and District Schools’ Music Festival 2019.

The Junior Choir gave a lively performance of ‘Janie Mama’ and ‘Get Loud’. The Chamber Choir challenged themselves with singing beautifully in Latin, a song called ‘The Song of Peace’.

The afternoon brought an energetic, uplifting and cheerful piece with the Infant Choir performing ‘Spring Chicken’ and ‘Tell Me A Story Shining Star’.

The judicator gave very positive comments on our choral pieces stating; ‘strong dictation and voices’, ‘clear voices’ and ‘the choirs sang absolutely together’.

The next day provided the Festival with the first ever rock band performance in its 79-year history! The sense of anticipation amongst our hosts and fellow participants was building … What do a primary school rock band actually sound like? Will they be any good? What will a rock band sound like next to a classical recorder piece? Is this the right venue for a rock band? All these questions and more were soon answered and the band enthusiastically played ‘Another one bites the dust’, ‘I love rock and roll’ and ‘We will rock you’. A technical hitch with a microphone didn’t put off our budding stars, during three slick performances the band members had the audience clapping and singing along.

The judicator came over and gave the children personal feedback stating ‘how simply marvellous their contribution was’ and ‘the super solo guitarists and a really steady beat created by the drummers created a nasty beat'. Apparently, this is a good thing in rock music! These performances had clearly made her day. She went on to say ‘I am so impressed with these bands; will you be making a CD?’

We are so proud of the children that represented Forest Park and Mr. Bowie is already taking calls from other local schools, asking for advice on how to set up a rock band for themselves. We believe that we may well have started a new ‘trend’ .... bring on ‘Battle of the Bands’!

Wednesday was Mrs. Wainwright’s last performance before her maternity leave and she had a lovely final day. We would like to take this opportunity in wishing her all the best and thanking her for all the expertise and time. We eagerly await her return next year.
