It’s a Stone Age Life for Year 3

Our recent trip to Tatton Old Hall gave the Year 3 children a greater understanding of life as a Stone Age person.

One of the first tasks was to use tools to dig furrows in soil but, as they were pretending to be Stone Age farmers, this meant that the only tools available were large shells and antlers combined with a lot of elbow grease!

The children also learnt how to grind down grain which would eventually become flour to cook with. They soon realised this was also hard work as they only had a flat stone to grind the grain down with.

During the day, the children gained many other experiences such as how a flint can be used with stone to ignite a fire and also how a trap can be made to catch a wild animal.

To end the day the children worked really effectively as a team as they put together shelters, constructed from only branches and leaves.   We think it's safe to say that Year 3 are ready for the next Bear Grylls’ mission!
