Years 1 and 2 Begin Exciting New Topics

What a busy and productive start in Key Stage 1. All the children have settled well into their new classes and are taking on new challenges with enthusiasm and resilience. They have been busy taking ownership over their classroom, creating displays and taking responsibility for keeping it tidy and organised.

In Year 2 the children are in the process of creating displays linked to the topics of ‘The Great Fire of London’, the artist ‘LS Lowry’ and looking at our school values. In art, the children have made houses from the past and dolly peg matchstick people. They had a lovely lesson discussing what makes a good friend and how we fit together as a Year 2 family.

Year 1 have started the theme - ‘Let’s go on Safari’ linking with different stories including; ‘Giraffes can’t Dance’ and ‘Walking Through the Jungle’. We found out about lots of different safari animals and the difference between Africa and England. Focusing on the weather, buildings and what we would need to pack in a suitcase to take to Africa. In Art, we have made African patterns and headdresses. We are looking forward to our Art workshop in a few weeks’ time.
