Pre-Prep Learn About People Who Help Us

This term Pre-Prep's topic is People Who Help Us. This topic gives children an insight into the roles of different important figures in the community, from firefighters to nurses, police officers to their very own teacher. By educating young children about the people who try and prevent these things happening or help us if they do, we are showing children the systems in place within our society to ensure that we live in a safe and supportive community. It also encourages children to notice places and people in their community and show them that they are part of a wider community.

To support the topic we teamed up with our Year 5 Buddies this week to go on a walk around Sale to see if they could spot some people who help us.  During the walk, the Year 5 children helped the younger children to gain an understanding of the topic by reading and explaining information posters to them. They also talked to them about road safety rules.

We visited the fire station, the ambulance station, the doctors' surgery, the dentist and the mechanics. They also witnessed a team of builders in action helping to fix the road, police cars and fire engines blaring their sirens, and even a friendly postman who stopped to say hello.

We look forward to telling you more about our topic at our class assembly on Wednesday 4 March at 9.00 am.  We do hope you can join us.

Mrs Richardson
