School Council

Posted on June 18 2015

The school councillors have been working hard together to find ways to improve our school.  Their dedication, commitment and enthusiasm are infectious.

The first task of the year was thinking of ways to raise money for Francis House.   After a long healthy debate, they decided to host afternoon tea, providing the posters, invitations and the delicious cakes.

The councillors were keen to set up and run a fruit tuck shop.   A meeting was organised with Mrs Horrocks to discuss their ideas with her and it was agreed by all that this would be an excellent initiative to have in school.  The children once again made posters to advertise the new tuck shop and planned a rota as to who was going to run the tuck shop.  After several weeks, the councillors designed an ingenious ‘fruit card’ which enables pupils to purchase fruit without the hassle of bringing money into school every Tuesday and Thursday.  The tuck shop has so far been a huge success.

After more talks, the councillors decided that they wanted to know the thoughts of the rest of the school on school meals and playground equipment.  Careful consideration went into the questionnaires ‘Food for Thought’ and ‘How Can We Improve Our School Playground?’  The class representatives talked to their individual class telling them all about the questionnaire and encouraging the children to read and complete the forms.  The response has been fabulous and the results will soon be displayed in school.

Thank you to all the school councillors for their outstanding contribution eagerness and willingness in running the School Council.
