Sporting Success

Forest Park took part in their first ever Handball competition last week.  The children had done several training sessions but had never played a competitive match before this event.  We went into the first game with a ‘let’s give it a go’ attitude, not worrying what the outcome would be.  However, in true Forest Park style, we won!  We played three games in our league and came second and therefore progressed on to the final rounds.  We finished in a very respectable sixth place, out of sixteen schools.  Well done to the whole team.  I think this fast and furious game is definitely a new sport to add to our list.  Next, Dodgeball in May!

Forest Park then took part in the annual ISA Cross Country Championships, held at Beech House School in Rochdale.  As soon as we arrived we were informed that they had record entries, with 35 schools (820 children) in attendance.  The children had the opportunity to walk the course first and enjoyed giving the different sections creative names, such as ‘Heart Attack Hill’, the final leg.  The top 10 runners in each race qualify to represent the north of England in the ISA National Championships held at Princethorpe College, Rugby in March.  In the ten years that I have been attending this event Forest Park has never had a child qualify for the nationals.  However, this year we had Jesse from Year 4 who came fifth and is now going on to represent us at the nationals.    Forest Park also came fifth out of the thirty-five schools, which is another record!  Well done to all the children who took part and thank you to the parents for their wonderful support on the day.  We will keep you updated on Jesse’s progress.

Last Saturday we also took part in Sale Harriers’ Cross Country which consists of two races for Juniors, one for boys and one for girls.  It was great to see an increased turnout; thanks to Mr Tucker’s promise of extra house points perhaps?   A special mention to Archie from Year 6, who came tenth in the boys’ event and received a special certificate.  We look forward to seeing even more children at the next event on Saturday, 2 March.
