Squiggle While You Wiggle!

Posted on October 14 2016

In Reception, we have been following an early writing and physical development programme called Squiggle While You Wiggle. This is to encourage children to enjoy mark making and creating large and small movements through dance, active physical activities and messy play.  As the year progresses, we follow the programme, practising our handwriting and learning how to make up and write our own stories.

This year for the first time, Reception were asked to take part in a twenty seven day Spread the Happiness  Award.  This involves twenty seven days of fun challenges. However, we quickly realised in order to spread the happiness we needed the whole school and parents to be involved. Each week is themed and challenges include: ice balls, treasure hunts, teaching squiggle to others and some rap to read phonics.

It is a fantastic way to learn to write and move in different ways alongside phonics, literacy and more physical sessions including Rhyme Time, music and P.E.
