Here we catch up with student teacher Amy, for an insight into life as a trainee teacher at Forest Park.
"My name is Amy and I am about to complete my final year professional practice experience here at Forest Park Preparatory School. I am a third year student from Edge Hill University, studying a three year undergraduate’s degree of a BA Honours in Primary Mathematics Education with Qualified Teacher Status.
For the last few months, I have had the pleasure of working alongside the incredible team here at Forest Park. My placement has been based in the Year 2 class, and I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the amazing little people that I have taught. Alongside teaching the children in this class, I have honestly learnt so much from them too! They have allowed me to complete a very successful final placement that has provided me with so many opportunities to develop and learn, and for that I am extremely grateful.
In Year 2, I have taught a range of different curriculum subjects including maths, English, science, art, DT, computing and humanities. Within my lessons, I always try to create fun and engaging activities that have fostered the children’s interests, likes and dislikes, which they have hopefully enjoyed and learnt lots from! I believe that I have created some great relationships with the children that have been built upon mutual respect. I will miss them very much when I leave.
The staff here at Forest Park have been extremely supportive and inspirational. It has been fantastic to observe and learn from the outstanding team that they have here. As a student teacher, coming into a well-established team can be daunting, but all of the staff have supported and challenged me to fully understand the type of teacher that want to be and I have become! I want to say a huge thank you to every member of staff for their time and effort.
Alongside working with the lovely Year 2 children, I have also had the opportunity to work with a number of different classes around the school. The school has allowed me to get to know lots of different children that you should be extremely proud of. There is a definite family atmosphere here that I feel I have been welcomed into with open arms. Your children have been a pleasure. There have been a number of great whole school opportunities that I have been able to get involved with. To name a few: World Book Day, The Grandparents Assembly and Science Week. These have been truly memorable experiences that I thank Forest Park for allowing me to be a part of.
I have been blown away with the children here and know that each and every one of them will have a very successful life beyond the walls of Forest Park Preparatory School. Their attitudes to learning, behaviour and manners are impeccable and I cannot praise them enough. I wish you all every success for the future and once again, thank you!"
