The Dragon is Back

This half-term, Year 4 were welcomed back to school to some spooky yet super exciting news: Forest Park had received its annual visit from … a dragon! For the last couple of years during the winter months, Forest Park’s CCTV has captured the very moment a mysterious creature flew around the school grounds.

Once the children were aware of the dragon's visit, they were super excited to get outside to search for any clues/evidence. Outside, the children found scratches in tree trunks, remnants of dragon egg and even ash from its fiery breath. We searched high and low, even out of the classroom window to see whether it was hiding on top of Pre-preps roof!

The children received a page from an ancient book of dragonology sent from Professor Snow at a local University.  The information on the paper was a non-chronological report about a dragon called the Manchester Ridgeback. Professor Snow was ever so intrigued to support us in identifying this dragon. After much discussion via email with Miss Holt, we can confirm that his prediction was correct!

Year 4 have been learning all about non-chronological reports including their structure and features in their English Genre work. They have been asked to contribute to Professor Snow’s latest creation: The Dragon Hunter’s Guide. To do this, they have been researching Thunder Dragons and will create their own non-chronological reports based on this species.

In order for the children to be ready should such a terrifying beast come to visit during our school day, Year 4 have been reading How To Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell - we can never be too prepared!
