The Importance of Play

Play based learning underpins the EYFS. Through play, children develop language skills, their emotions and creativity, social and intellectual skills.

Play based learning is important for healthy brain development. It is through play that children can practise and process much of the information that they have learned. They take risks, show imagination and solve problems on their own or with others.

At Forest Park, we provide time and space and appropriate resources that will inspire play and ignite children’s imaginations. After teaching a lesson, allowing children time to play, in certain situations, can help them to put the information that they have just learned into imaginary or real situations. We value play and provide safe but challenging environments that support and extend learning and development.
