Very Hungry Caterpillars

Last half term our topic in Reception was “Growing” and as part of our learning we read the book ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’.

Mrs Lynn got some caterpillars for our classroom so we could watch them grow and turn into butterflies. We read lots of non-fiction books about caterpillars and made some beautiful symmetrical butterflies.

Unfortunately after a few weeks school closed so Mrs Johnson took the caterpillars home to look after them. After another week or so the caterpillars attached themselves to the lid of the pot as chrysalises and soon they emerged into beautiful butterflies.

We were very sad that the children didn’t get to see this exciting event but Mrs Johnson managed to get it on camera and we posted the photos onto our Google classroom so the children could follow the progress.

Some of the children even bought their own caterpillars and are watching them grow at home now which is fantastic news!
