Year 1 & 2 Trip to Lyme Park

Posted on December 15 2015

On Thursday, Year 1 and 2 battled their way through the driving wind and rain (and the A6 to Buxton) to reach the beautiful Lyme Hall. We were warmly welcomed by Tom who told us of Christmases past and traditions by the fireside. The children treated Tom to a rendition of the Twelve Days of Christmas, with a few Minecraft references thrown in there too (no names mentioned!).

The children then learnt about the original Christmas cracker and how Tom Smith developed them to what we know and love today. They then made their own homemade crackers and Tudor inspired Pomanders, decorated with pepper corns.

The afternoon commenced learning about the history of the family who lived at Lyme Hall and how they would delight visitors, friends and staff with the theatre performances over the festive period. The children were so enthused by this, that they performed their own version of The Elves and the Shoemaker, to complete what was simply a superb day!
