Year 3 & 4 Trip to Gita Bhavan Hindu Temple

Posted on October 11 2017

As part of their study of the Hindu religion, our Year 3 and 4 students visited the Gita Bhavan Hindu Temple in Withington, Manchester.

Despite the rainy weather the children’s spirits were not dampened and they were very excited to meet our guide for the day, Mr Sharma, who started by giving us an insight into the history of the temple. The students listened carefully and with keen interest to the stories behind Diwali festival and each of the many statues in the building. We were told how the Hindus worship God and how they prepare for such worship especially in the morning.

Mr Sharma showed us how to pray using the Aum symbol.

The children carefully followed his instructions step by step and confidently recited the prayer.

During the tour the students asked and answered lots of questions and they were given tasks to complement their studies back in school. At the end of the visit, the children were given the opportunity to look around the temple and the sacred water. They were also offered the chance to try some traditional food that Hindu people offer to their God every day.

The students conduct was exemplary.  All those at the temple were impressed at the knowledge shown by the students and their behaviour during the tour. All the students returned to Forest Park happy and impressed by all that they had experienced during the trip. The visit will have helped further their understanding of the Hindu religion and they used the knowledge gained from the visit during their lesson this week.

All in all, this was a most enjoyable and valuable trip for all of our Year 3 and 4 students.

A big thank you to all that were involved in making it such a wonderful experience.
