Year 5 and 6 Residential Trip to Lakeside

Posted on May 04 2017

Lakeside 2017 brought jam-packed, fun-filled challenges for the Year 5 and 6 children, and even the teachers!

Have no fear!  If you get stuck in the wilderness, the children have the skills to help you to survive.  They have learnt the skills to build you a shelter, start a fire, track deer and even make you a cup of wilderness tea.

The 'I can and I will' attitude shone through on the 12km circular hike and they needed strong stomachs for sailing the waves on a blustery Lake Windermere and thick skin when they all dived in off the boat.  They showed no fear crawling through blue tubes and throwing themselves backwards down the abseiling wall.  Other activities included scrambling through the obstacle course, using their team working skills to carry a welly of water without moving their feet, supporting each other through the blindfolded nightline course and swinging through the trees on the King Swing.

The children have also made international friends from Venice during meal times and shared lots of cultural experiences.

We are immensely proud of the children's behaviour, attitude and perseverance throughout the week, but this is no surprise as this is what Forest Park children do.

Year 5 girls: "Do we really have to go home, can't we stay a week?"

James: "What a beautiful view to have during your breakfast, I wish I could see it every day!"

Zoe: "Sailing was amazing!"

All the children: “I can't believe I have faced a fear and attempted all the activities."

This is certainly a residential which won't be forgotten by the children and the teachers.
