This is Ground Control…

On Thursday 25th February, as part of their science enrichment, Year 5 visited the intriguing Jodrell Bank Visitor Centre, where, in the two learning pavilions, they encountered so many hands on activities that they could now be classed as junior astrophysicists!

The workshops Jodrell delivered to the children were interactive and full of learning; 4 investigations on gravity, craters, meteorites and light.  The children even had the opportunity to handle an actual meteorite and proper scientific equipment. The second workshop was the most fun; The Mars Rover Challenge. The children had to design and test landing equipment that would keep their cargo safe…a raw egg!

A big thank you to Dr Datta, Surjo’s mum, who accompanied us on the trip and was on hand to explain and answer questions about Jodrell, which she was able to do with aplomb as she works there, researching interstellar molecular clouds!!! She also set an extra challenge - the winner was Arjun! Well done!

A great and engaging day was had by all!
