A Day in Our Nursery

Learning Through Play, Exploration and Discovery

Every day in our Nursery at Forest Park is filled with opportunities to explore, create, discover and grow.

Welcoming children aged two, our Nursery provides a happy, nurturing environment where children feel secure, develop friendships and begin building the foundations for a lifelong love of learning.

We recognise that every child develops at their own pace. Our experienced Early Years team carefully plans activities around children’s individual interests, abilities and stages of development, encouraging them to become confident, curious and increasingly independent learners.

Our Nursery Curriculum

Our Nursery follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, providing a balanced approach to learning and development through seven key areas:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

At this early stage, we place particular emphasis on communication, language, physical development and building positive relationships.

Through play-based activities, stories, songs, movement, sensory experiences and imaginative exploration, children develop essential skills naturally and enjoyably.

A Stimulating Indoor Learning Environment

Our welcoming Nursery classroom is thoughtfully organised into dedicated learning areas, encouraging children to explore their interests, make choices and develop independence.

Children enjoy a wide variety of activities and resources, including:

  • Reading Area: A cosy, inviting space to discover stories, explore books and develop a love of reading.
  • Creative and Mark-Making Area: Opportunities to draw, paint, experiment with different materials and develop early writing skills.
  • Maths Table: Playful activities introducing numbers, shapes, patterns and early mathematical concepts.
  • Topic Table: Hands-on resources and activities that encourage curiosity and exploration of different themes.
  • Sand and Water Play: Sensory experiences that support creativity, coordination, problem-solving and discovery.
  • Interactive Technology: Age-appropriate opportunities to explore digital learning resources.

Our approach to continuous provision allows children to access activities independently, revisit their interests and develop new skills through meaningful play.

Outdoor Adventures and Active Learning

Outdoor learning is an important part of everyday life at Forest Park. Our spacious outdoor environment provides opportunities for physical activity, imaginative play and exploration in all seasons.

Children can enjoy:

  • Mud Kitchen and Woodland Workshop: Encouraging creativity, sensory exploration and imaginative play.
  • Construction Area and Diggerland: Developing problem-solving skills, coordination and teamwork.
  • Cycle Track: Building balance, confidence and physical coordination.
  • Water Play: Encouraging experimentation, discovery and sensory learning.
  • Climbing Frame and Slide: Supporting strength, balance and physical confidence.
  • Planting and Garden Area: Introducing children to nature, growing plants and caring for the environment.

With a large covered outdoor area and dedicated outdoor classroom, children have regular opportunities to learn and play outside throughout the year.

Discovering New Interests

Even our youngest children benefit from the specialist teaching and wider opportunities available as part of Forest Park Preparatory School. Our specialist teachers introduce children to Music, PE and Spanish, providing exciting experiences that support their physical, creative and communication skills.

These sessions help children discover new interests, build confidence and enjoy learning in different ways.

Exploring Beyond the Classroom

We believe that some of the most memorable learning experiences happen beyond the classroom. Our Nursery children benefit from school trips and visits each term, providing opportunities to explore new environments, develop confidence and discover more about the world around them.

Previous outings have included visits to Smithills Farm and Knowsley Safari Park.

Growing in Confidence and Independence

Throughout their time in Nursery, children are encouraged to develop independence through everyday routines, from making choices and looking after their belongings to helping tidy away resources and building friendships. Our dedicated team celebrates every achievement, however small, helping children develop a positive attitude towards learning and the confidence to try new things.

As children grow, we gently prepare them for the next stage of their Forest Park journey in Pre-Prep.
